Want to know more? In this article, our dentist in Tunbridge Wells answers FAQs about veneers, so enjoy!
Does it hurt to have veneers fitted?
In a word, no.
Our dentist in Tunbridge Wells will only need to sand down the front of your tooth or teeth to fit the veneers, which should not be uncomfortable.
As the veneers are custom-fitted to fit over your teeth, the process of having them fitted should take around an hour (depending on how many are being fitted) allowing you to leave our surgery the same day with a great looking, refreshed smile.
Will they look fake?
No, they won’t; unless you want them to look a bit more on the Hollywood end of the cosmetic spectrum!
When you come to our team at Woodbury Park Dental, we will discuss the final aesthetic result that you wish to achieve with your oral implants and will aim to match them as best as possible. Many of our patients wish to have a more natural-looking final result, which would mean that our team would need to colour match and shade match the veneers to your natural tooth colour.
But if you want to have a more glamorous final result that will turn heads, we can do that too!
How long do they last?
With correct aftercare, maintenance and good oral hygiene, your veneers can last up to and over 15 years.
By correct aftercare, we mean attending dental check-ups with our team every 6 months and keeping and cleaning your teeth at home as you usually would. To maintain your veneers, you should refrain from smoking cigarettes or drinking excessive quantities of alcohol, as these can cause your gums to swell, which can lead to your veneers coming loose.
If you suspect at any time that you have a loose veneer, please see our team for a check-up.
I read that they are stain-proof; is that true?
When compared to natural enamel, porcelain veneers are extremely stain-proof.
This is because porcelain is less porous than enamel and so if you regularly consume food or drinks that are high in tannins, such as tea, there is a lower chance of the veneers becoming stained.
But, as before, to keep them looking their whitest, you should cut out habits such as smoking and, if you have concerns that they are stained, visit our team.
Can anyone have them fitted?
Most people can have veneers fitted. As long as you are over the age of 18, our team will assess you for suitability. If we find issues such as tooth decay or gum disease, we will treat these before fitting veneers, as you need to have good oral health to have them fitted.
